5.6 Ordering Food for Delivery

Storyline

After making good progress, the interns take a break. Li Mei praises Zhang Di and Wang Jiedan for finishing the survey questions quickly. Hungry, the group decides to order food.

They discuss food delivery apps and choose Foodpanda, popular in Hong Kong. While setting up the app, they chat about payment methods like Apple Pay, WeChat Pay, and credit cards. Li Mei considers buying a new phone but reconsiders after hearing it might not work in the U.S.

They browse the menu, choose dishes like fried rice, noodles, and vegetarian options, and place their order—still hoping a drone might deliver it.

李梅: 张笛、王杰丹,你们太厉害了,这么快就做完了问卷的问题。那我和周萌也要快点做好我们的网页。
王杰丹: 今天别做了, 我肚子饿了,你们还不饿吗?
张笛: 你这么一说,我也觉得饿了。 我们去饭馆儿吃饭吧。
周萌: 去饭馆儿太花时间。我们点外卖吧。
张笛: 主意。 你们的手机有外卖的APP吗?
周萌: 我在美国的时候 用Uber Eats。 听说在大陆都用美团或者饿了么。香港用什么?
王杰丹: 我听说这里用Food Panda。
张笛: 哈哈, 熊猫外卖。那我得多吃一点儿。
王杰丹: 用Food Panda 除了可以点餐以外, 还可以买别的东西。
李梅: 淘宝拼多多一样吗?
王杰丹: 不一样。淘宝和拼多多买的东西很多,可是Food Panda 只卖食物
张笛: 我用的是安卓系统的手机, 可以下载熊猫外卖吗?
王杰丹: 可以的。苹果系统的手机和安卓系统的手机都可以用的。
李梅: 说到手机, 我想在香港买一个新手机,听说大陆的OPPO、华为小米手机都很不错。
张笛: 但是你回美国就不能用了。
李梅: 算了。我还是先下载Foodpanda 吧。
周萌: 我也要下载。
王杰丹: 下载以后你要先建立自己的账户,然后再设置密码。

张笛: 真方便。我听说现在很多外卖公司用机器人或者无人机外卖。
周萌: 是吗?那太酷了。我希望今天是无人机给我们送外卖。
王杰丹: 那我们快点菜吧。手机APP里有他们的菜单。你们想吃点什么?喝点儿什么饮料?
张笛: 我想吃炒饭,鸡肉,猪肉,,什么炒饭都可以。我想喝冰茶
周萌: 吃素。我要可乐。
李梅: 我想吃炒面,喝一杯奶茶
张笛: 我想吃牛肉。喝红茶
王杰丹: 那我们点广东人家的菜吧。他们有素菜,炒豆腐红烧牛肉,和肉炒饭。
周萌: 好,那我们下单吧。

Sentence Structure

1. 做完 (zuò wán)

Meaning:

“To finish doing something” – Indicates the completion of an action.
Often formed as verb + to show that the action has been fully completed.

When to Use:

  • Use when you want to emphasize that something has been entirely finished.
  • It can also show sequence: after finishing one thing, you may do something else.

Structure: Subject + 做完 + Object

Example:

你们太厉害了,这么快就做完了问卷的问题
(Nǐmen tài lìhài le, zhème kuài jiù zuò wán le wènjuàn de wèntí.)
→ You’re amazing—you finished the survey questions so quickly.

2. 做好 (zuò hǎo)

Meaning:

“To do something well” / “To complete something properly” – Indicates completion with readiness or quality.
“好” here implies that the action is completed successfully or properly.

When to Use:

  • Use when you want to emphasize that a task is not only finished but done correctly or well.
  • Often used when preparing something for the next step.

Structure: Subject + 做好 + Object

Example:

我们也要快点做好我们的网站
(Wǒmen yě yào kuài diǎn zuò hǎo wǒmen de wǎngzhàn.)
→ We need to finish building our website properly (and promptly).

3. 除了……以外,还…… (chú le… yǐ wài, hái…)

Meaning:

“Besides… also…” or “In addition to… also…” – Used to express additional items or actions.

When to Use:

  • To say that one thing happens, and something else also happens.
  • Used to add information beyond the main point.

Structure: 除了 + A + 以外, 还 + B

Example:

用 Food Panda 除了可以点餐以外,还可以买别的东西。
(Yòng Food Panda chú le kěyǐ diǎn cān yǐwài, hái kěyǐ mǎi bié de dōngxi.)
→ With Food Panda, besides ordering food, you can also buy other things.

 4. 什么……都…… (shénme… dōu…)

Meaning:

“Everything…” / “Anything…” / “No exception” – Indicates totality or inclusiveness.

When to Use:

  • To emphasize that any and all things in a category apply.
  • Often used for emphasis on variety or generality.

Structure: 什么 + Noun + 都 + Verb/Adjective

Example:

我想吃炒饭,鸡肉,牛肉,猪肉,鱼,什么炒饭都可以
(Wǒ xiǎng chī chǎofàn, jīròu, niúròu, zhūròu, yú, shénme chǎofàn dōu kěyǐ.)
→ I want fried rice—chicken, beef, pork, fish—any kind of fried rice is okay.
