Abstract

Corporate Finance focuses on novel ways of student learning in the finance area of corporations with a focus on aviation and aerospace industries. While realizing that everyone has a different style of learning, this publication offers multiple learning techniques and tools in each chapter, including the traditional written matter elaborating on each concept as well as multiple video lectures found at the bottom of each chapter that reinforce each chapter’s concepts. These videos vary between 10 and 30 minutes in duration and include demonstrations where necessary. Other shorter videos from the authors are also present to demonstrate calculations, solved example activities, and conceptual walk-throughs. Interactive self-assessment quizzes are yet another tool for learning. Present at the end of each chapter, these quizzes help a reader analyze and test their learning. A reader/ student is able to use one or more of these mode(s) of learning that best suits their needs and preferences.

Another strength of this textbook is the real-world examples and technologies used to demonstrate the concepts in-action. Almost all chapters include industry examples, and finance problems are presented in Microsoft Excel. Demonstrations of these problems are similarly presented using Microsoft Excel. Finally, functions in Excel are modeled with attention to how to use these functions to produce the desired outcome. Students are also given a chance to display these skills and concepts through Excel Activities, which are provided at the end of each chapter. Remember, there are multiple ways to solve each problem. The use of Excel hopefully presents students with opportunities to learn and practice with the tool in ways that can transfer their application of finance to corporate environments.

So go ahead, explore and find your own way!
